Neon Indian is the brainchild of Alan Palomo, who’s 2009 debut record Psychic Chasms not only assisted the forming of a genre that, though known by a few names now (hypnagogic pop, glo-fi, chillwave), summoned a very unique and specific electro-mangled sound. Music critics praised Palomo for his adventurous new sound, and he was tapped to perform at various festivals and also scored opening slots for bands ranging from Massive Attack and The Flaming Lips to Phoenix.

After nearly two years on the road, this year Palomo released the LP Era Extraña, a darker shaded sound document that tosses somewhere between an 8-bit shoegaze record and peering through the fence of a teenage apocalypse drive-in flick. This summer Neon Indian bring their hynagogic-pop-glo-fi-chillwave back to Australia, playing a string of shows.

When performing, Palomo is joined on stage by a live band, consisting of Jason Faries (drums) and Leanne Macomber (keyboard, vocals).

Yeah i was near the pillar at the front and couldn't hear the vocals properly. I was behind a guy recording the concert so hopefully he didn't have the same problem haha. Wished he played Arcade Blues though.

Blehhh, sound mix was pretty bad [2]. I ain't no poser but I left, his show at the toff last year was far superior.

It was pretty awesome all the way through from my perspective up the front, apart from a couple of monumental dickheads in the crowd (and the fact that it seemed that apart from some people dancing near me, most of the audience seemed to be glued to the floor). Alan Palomo was fucking into it. Hex Girlfriend and Ephemeral Artery were my highlights.

The 2nd half was stronger.. Polish Girl/Deadbeat Summer back-to-back saved the day. Otherwise pretty disappointing, the venue had emptied before the show was over. Lucky the people who stayed (and who were actual neon indian fans instead of posers) cheered him on and made for a good vibe for the 2nd half.

Blehhh, sound mix was pretty bad. Couple of good moments (Fallout especially), but otherwise not great.

As much as I like Neon Indian, I'd much rather see Balam Acab et al, great lineup.. But I can't go to either, prior commitments - so I think my problem wins

I have the opposite problem... "Don’t forget you might be going to Neon Indian at Prince Bandroom on the same date."
