Fri 9 Apr – AFI, Sick of It All, The DEAR & DEPARTED

Perpaps to coincide with the back to basics vibe of Crash Love, AFI's "proper rock record", it seems that the theatricality of the bands live act has become a thing of the past. No ominous lingering chords, no pounding drums of Mieria Cantera or ghostly shillouettes accompanying Decemberunderground's Prelude, AFI stroll on stage and straight into Medicate. That's not to say it isn't a great moment, it's just not what many of us had come to expect.

Of course, those of us who weren't won over by Crash Love - and by Davey's glittering jacket (more reminiscant of a golden mile karaoke singer than the lipstick and fishnet days of old) - are soon rewarded with Girls not Grey, followed immediatley by the classic Leaving song part II.

As the night progresses, the band seem to get the balance between old and new spot on. With a band that have been around this long, who have spanned so many genres, it would be impossible to keep everyone completely happy…
